Teen Boards and Tens Boards – Primary Montessori Math

Heather Brostron, primary directress (preschool/kindergarten teacher) at OakHaven Montessori School in O’Fallon, MO, demonstrates to a group of parents how the teen boards and tens boards are presented to young children. Preschool and kindergarten age children (in OakHaven’s primary program) have fun working with these boards, which also:

- helps them associate the name, quantity and symbol
- gives the names of the tens 20 – 90
- clarifies that two tens is the same as twenty, etc.
- indirectly prepares for linear and skip counting
