"I truly believe we can either see the connections, celebrate them, and express gratitude for our blessings, or we can see life as a string of coincidences that have no meaning or connection. For me, I'm going to believe in miracles, celebrate life, rejoice in the views of eternity, and hope my choices will create a positive ripple effect in the lives of others. This is my choice."
- Mike Ericksen
Thanksgiving has always been a favorite holiday for me. It’s the time of year that encourages us to stop and reflect on the countless blessings each of us experience every day. It offers some much needed perspective about what’s really important in life. It reminds us to be grateful for all those who came before us, and gave so much to allow us to have the abundant life we live today. It’s not about things. It’s not about receiving. It hasn’t been completely overtaken by the consumerism and materialism that is so prevalent in our culture today. On this holiday we can just be together and give thanks.
As OakHaven celebrates it’s milestone 10th anniversary this year, perhaps more than ever, my heart overflows with gratitude for the work I get to do each and every day. For the last 10 years, I’ve had the great privilege of working with some of the most incredible people on earth - your children, you, our dedicated staff, and the community at large - to provide a truly transformative education for children. The growth I get to witness on a daily basis is nothing short of miraculous, and I treasure the moments in which I’m able to step back, take a breath, and see the whole picture. For me, this is what Thanksgiving is all about.
"Gratitude turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos
into order, confusion into clarity...it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow."
- Melody Beattie
I hope that during this week of Thanksgiving you are also able to take a moment (or many) to stop and give thanks for the countless gifts in your life. I know your children, so I know how very much each and every one of you have to be thankful for. And, though many of them can’t say the words yet, I know without a doubt that your children are also so very grateful for you. They’re some of the luckiest children on earth to have such involved, caring parents who love and give them so much.
All of us at OakHaven also want you to know how extremely grateful we are that you share your most precious gifts with us each and every day, and for all you do to make this community so extraordinary. You and your children turn our work into a joy.
THANK YOU and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!
